The Women’s Board of Lincoln Park Zoo to Host “A Feathered Affair” at Annual Zoo Ball
The Vibrant Celebration Takes Wing on July 12 in support of Chicago’s Cherished Wildlife Experience
CHICAGO (April 24, 2019) – On July 12, 2019, the Women’s Board of Lincoln Park Zoo will host its annual Zoo Ball, the zoo’s largest fundraising event of the year. This year’s black-tie gathering, themed “A Feathered Affair,” pays homage to the Chilean flamingo and will feature a festive evening that will inspire and engage attendees in support of Chicago’s beloved wildlife institution.
A Feathered Affair aims to enchant with colorful, lush décor reminiscent of an exotic paradise set within the wonders of wildlife in the heart of Chicago. Creatively inspired cocktails and cuisine along with lively music will be featured throughout the evening.
“We were inspired by the Chilean flamingo’s grace and striking coral color,” said Zoo Ball 2019 Co-Chairs Bonnie Kaufman and Ela Lewis. “This fascinating, dynamic bird sets the tone for the evening – a summer fête complete with vibrant florals, flavorful fare, and lively entertainment.”
Attracting more than 800 business and community leaders and zoo supporters each year, Zoo Ball is consistently one of the most anticipated galas in Chicago. Proceeds from A Feathered Affair will allow the Lincoln Park Zoo Women’s Board to uphold their core mission of providing a zoo experience that is free and accessible to all.
Funds will go toward the Board’s pledge to the zoo’s “The Pride of Chicago” capital campaign, which supports initiatives including future renovations of the historic Kovler Lion House, an iconic treasure to Lincoln Park Zoo and Chicago, as well as programmatic support of the Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes.
This year’s event will also present guests with exciting entertainment. The Cat’s Pajamas, a well-known a capella group, will greet guests with spirited vocals, offering a warm welcome and first look to the exciting evening ahead. As guests sit for dinner, celebrity DJ Madrid Perry will perform an eclectic mix, ranging from soft sounds of jazz to upbeat tunes of all genres.
Other engaging features will be educational in nature, including opportunities for guests to familiarize themselves with the Chilean flamingo by way of informational pop-up stations that will be positioned at various locations throughout the event.
Annually, Zoo Ball generates a significant financial contribution for Lincoln Park Zoo to support the highest standards of animal care, education, and conservation offered at the Chicago landmark. Since its inception in 1976, the Women’s Board has contributed more than $26 million to a wide range of capital projects and habitats, including Searle Visitor Center, Hurvis Family Learning Center, Robert and Mayari Pritzker Penguin Cove, Regenstein Macaque Forest, Nature Boardwalk, and Regenstein Center for African Apes.
“The continued success of Zoo Ball is a reflection of the passionate members of the Women’s Board, who are wholly dedicated to Lincoln Park Zoo,” said Biff Bowman, Chairman of the Lincoln Park Zoo Board of Trustees. “The Women’s Board actively raises funds year after year to ensure an educational, inspirational and accessible zoo experience for the Chicago community and visitors from across the globe.”
A Feathered Affair takes place on Friday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln Park Zoo. Zoo Ball 2019 is proud to partner with the Waldorf Astoria Chicago as the official hotel sponsor of the event. To purchase tickets, visit lpzooball.org/ticketing.
