Opening a restaurant during the summer months is a very good time to open up a restaurant. People are looking for an outside experience rather than being stuck at home all the time. Meals out of the house during the hot months are often far more reliable for people and with the constant movement of tourists the more people can go to the restaurant. The experience of going out is something that people need from time to time. In my case, I went to the recently reopened Diner Grill.
The Diner Grill is a charming little restaurant located in 1635 West Irving Park road. After it closed down due to a fire many people that lived in the neighborhood said many nice things about the restaurant. The decoration of the reopened restaurant was very reminiscent of the old traditional dinners from the forties and the fifties, with the clients sitting on the stools and the food was being cooked in front of them. The floor was made of white tiles, the stools were metallic and were all lined up at the bar. There was a TV at the side of the diner for the customers and cooks to look at. It wasn’t as flamboyant as some movies make the old dinners out to be but it was charming. There was a more modern look to the place but it was very welcoming for people to come in and have something to eat or drink. The cooks were even the ones that attended me and the other customers. This experience was a nice change of pace since it made the service very efficient and fast in comparison to other modern places like Burger Bar or the Purple Pig.
The food was fairly good, better than what I expected when I first went in. The burger I ordered was a little smaller than what I thought but that did not take away from the flavor. Since the beef was much smaller it cooked quickly and I was eating before I knew it. The food that the other customers ordered looked very good as well one of the customers ordered an egg and bacon sandwich and another one was a sausage and egg sandwich. The price of the food were very low and affordable for people with the most expensive thing being slightly over twelve dollars. My meal alone was only eleven dollars and fifty cents, and I had a beef burger, fries on the side, and a drink. This shows me that this restaurant focuses more on getting people the food they want at lower prices and let them be on their way before they know it.
In a way this meal made me feel like I was in an old 1940s Noir style film. Of course no gangsters really walked in the dinner, but regardless I had a very good time there and even managed to catch some of the World Cup. I do recommend that people that like old style food or some good looking breakfast sandwiches to look this place up.
