Laws are put to place in society to uphold peace and safety in the community. They are implemented to create structure and order for the sake of the people’s well being. However, laws vary in different states and cities. In Chicago, there are a few laws in the city where some people wish they would just simply go away. I asked a few people around the city what certain laws they thought should be altered.
“I think Chicago needs to legalize weed to be fully recreational because economically it’ll create a cash flow like no other. It will also create jobs and resources will be saved because of that. In addition, it is another step towards prison reform.” – Alexander Coba
“I think the speeding cameras should go away. They are extremely unnecessary on certain streets and it causes a lot of traffic. I would also change spending money on paying tickets where I don’t even know where my money goes.” – Griselda Amaro
“There is a law that allows police to stop pedestrians in CTA stations and asks to search their bags. If these people don’t comply they won’t be allowed on the train. This absolutely needs to change because not only the lack of warrants but it is just another way to allow racial profiling.” – Michael Caballero.
