Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.
Life is about accepting the challenges along the way, choosing to keep moving forward, and savoring the journey. You cannot control the behavior of others, but you can always choose how you respond to it. There is some kind of a sweet innocence in being human in not having to be just happy or just sad in the nature of being able to be both broken and whole, at the same time. The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I’m not going to let myself pull me down. The more you feed your mind with positive thoughts, the more you can attract great things into your life. The outer world is a reflection of the inner world. Other people’s perception of you is a reflection of them; your response to them is an awareness of you. Once you realize you deserve a bright future, letting go of your dark past is the best choice you will ever make.
Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart. If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present. The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence; the past is a place of learning, not a place of living. I have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where I am going. And I have trained myself to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you’re going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.
Don’t let the expectations and opinions of other people affect your decisions. It’s your life, not theirs. Do what matters most to you; do what makes you feel alive and happy. Don’t let the expectations and ideas of others limit who you are. If you let others tell you who you are, you are living their reality — not yours. There is more to life than pleasing people. There is much more to life than following others’ prescribed path. There is so much more to life than what you experience right now. You need to decide who you are for yourself. Become a whole being. Adventure. The biggest wall you have to climb is the one you built in your mind: Never let your mind talk you out of your dreams, trick you into giving up. Never let your mind become the greatest obstacle to success. You have to get your mind on the right track, the rest will follow.
Maturity is when you stop complaining and making excuses, and start making changes. Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could. Any idiot can face a crisis; it’s this day-to-day living that wears you out. The strongest people find the courage and caring to help others, even if they are going through their own storm. Kindness is not a business. True kindness expects nothing in return and should never act with conditions.
Count your blessings, not your problems. Count your own blessings, not someone else’s. Remember that jealousy is when you count someone else’s blessings instead of your own. Everyone you meet is a part of your journey, but not all of them are meant to stay in your life. Some people are just passing through to bring you gifts; either they’re blessings or lessons. You are unique. You have different talents and abilities. You don’t have to always follow in the footsteps of others. And most important, you should always remind yourself that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing and have a responsibility to develop the talents you have been given. You cannot change anyone, but you can be the reason someone changes. I’m done with those; regrets are an excuse for people who have failed.
Guard well your thoughts when alone and your words when accompanied.
