MCP Mission Compassion Paw is a Chicago 501c3 boots on the ground animal rescue organization with a robust volunteer base. MCP is a foster based rescue, with most of our fosters residing throughout Chicago and the northern suburbs. MCP is different from other rescues in a few ways. 1- We focus on rescuing dogs locally. We rescue dogs primarily from various city of Chicago Animal Care and Controls. 2- MCP’s work is focused on alleviating the overpopulation problem within the city shelters. In city shelters we find primarily Pitbulls and so the vast majority of our rescues are Pitbulls. 3- Aside from Pitbulls MCP rescues a variety of dogs out of high risk situations, including; abusive situations, kill shelters, strays, elderly dogs and dogs in need of major medical attention with the commitment to heal them, rehabilitate them and find them foster homes, and eventually place them in fully vetted forever homes.

Nationwide, pitbulls are the most euthanized and misunderstood breed. This stems from systematic backyard breeding, on top of the lack of education and resources over the benefits of spay and neuter. As MCP is so focused on Chicago and primarily pulls pitbulls in a multitude of situations, we promote the breed, and seek to educate the general population. On top of that, MCP supports dog food banks, and spay and neuter coalitions, both in low income neighborhoods and throughout Chicagoland. MCP partners with local organizations and is a member of CRISP, which is Chicago dog rescue coalition that tries to provide assistance to low income dog owners, and divert animals from being surrendered to the city of Chicago shelters. 70% of the dogs MCP rescues are ‘hard to adopt’ – being pitbull, senior, or medical case. And this is something MCP not only prides itself on, but will continue as we expand. In the coming year we will be engaging with city youth by partnering with the juvenile detention system to create humane education programing focused on dogs, rescue, humane treatment and art.
