Graciously Stepping Into 2020 By DL
True forgiveness is when you can say, Thank you for that experience.
Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance. Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not. Always remember people who have helped you along the way, and don’t forget to lift someone up.
Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good. Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for. Great things happen to those who don’t stop believing, trying, learning, and being grateful. Make a pact with yourself today to not be defined by your past. Sometimes the greatest thing to come out of all your hard work isn’t what you get for it, but what you become for it. Being grateful does not mean that everything is necessarily good. It just means that you can accept it as a gift. When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears.
Those with a grateful mindset tend to see the message in the mess. And even though life may knock them down, the grateful find reasons, if even small ones, to get up. When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed. If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well. Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others. As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. Gratitude looks to the Past and love to the Present; fear, avarice, lust, and ambition look ahead. Free yourself from the complexities and drama of your life. Simplify. Look within. Within ourselves we all have the gifts and talents we need to fulfill the purpose we’ve been blessed with.
In normal life we hardly realize how much more we receive than we give, and life cannot be rich without such gratitude. It is so easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements compared with what we owe to the help of others. And when you crush an apple with your teeth, say to it in your heart: Your seeds shall live in my body, And the buds of your tomorrow shall blossom in my heart, And your fragrance shall be my breath, And together we shall rejoice through all the seasons. The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but the thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings. We should certainly count our blessings, but we should also make our blessings count.
I have been finding treasures in places I did not want to search. I have been hearing wisdom from tongues I did not want to listen. I have been finding beauty where I did not want to look. And I have learned so much from journeys I did not want to take. Forgive me, O Gracious One; for I have been closing my ears and eyes for too long. I have learned that miracles are only called miracles because they are often witnessed by only those who can can see through all of life’s illusions. I am ready to see what really exists on other side, what exists behind the blinds, and taste all the ugly fruit instead of all that looks right, plump and ripe.
If we never experience the chill of a dark winter, it is very unlikely that we will ever cherish the warmth of a bright summer’s day. Nothing stimulates our appetite for the simple joys of life more than the starvation caused by sadness or desperation. In order to complete our amazing life journey successfully, it is vital that we turn each and every dark tear into a pearl of wisdom, and find the blessing in every curse. The problem that we have with a victim mentality is that we forget to see the blessings of the day. Because of this, our spirit is poisoned instead of nourished. Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving. Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. Those who have the ability to be grateful are the ones who have the ability to achieve greatness.
What separates privilege from entitlement is gratitude.
