As a foodie, I’m always looking for the latest and greatest foods to try. What intrigues me about a restaurant is how they add their own little twists to the food they serve. A good restaurant takes ordinary food and turns it into something new! This particular restaurant takes french fries to a whole new level. French fries are usually deemed as a side or a snack. Although, I’m pretty sure I’ve made french fries my choice of a meal once or twice. I’m a french fry fanatic! I don’t think I can live without french fries. I’ve seen this restaurant featured on many shows, so I thought I would make my way to the Bronzeville neighborhood and check it out for myself.
Friistyle is located at 5059 S Prairie in the Bronzeville neighborhood. Friistyle is the American (Traditional) fast food style, with a Belgian approach. It’s basically loaded fries topped with your favorite meats, veggies, and sauce. I walked in on a Tuesday around 1:00pm and there was a good-size lunch crowd. I came in knowing what I wanted to try. I ordered the wings frite with boughetto sauce and the jerk salmon frite to-go. I should mention that I did share some of the food with a coworker. My first impression was how beautiful it looked. It is conveniently served in a to-go box. The image of chicken wings lightly drenched in sauce and fries at the bottom just soaking it all up is pure delicious. The wings were quite smokey and saucey. You can tell the fries are hand cut and made fresh to order. The jerk salmon was cooked perfectly and topped with a mango salsa and aioli. It was tasty, and the mango salsa really complimented the salmon. If I didn’t share, I would’ve eaten all of it. I would consider this a meal. Who knew that french fries would be considered a meal?
Some other options that stood out were: the Italian beef frite (Chicago style beef, asiago and giardiniera cheese sauce, and au jus), Creamy chicken alfredo frite (Grilled chicken, creamy alfredo sauce, and parmesan cheese), Lamb frite (roasted lamb, gremolata, tzatziki sauce, and herbs), and the roasted veggie frite (roasted veggies topped with honey mustard). If you love french fries, or want to try a new and interesting concept, make your way to Friistyle in the Bronzeville neighborhood.
