Fox in a Box opened the doors of its first real life escape room in 2013, in Vienna, Austria. Today, we are among the leading real life escape franchises in the world with a network stretching across 4 continents with over 30 locations. Our exclusive showrooms are located in Stockholm (Sweden) and Vienna (Austria) and our Research & Development Center is located in Serbia.
Our goal is not only to be the best real life escape company on the market, but to have the Fox in a Box brand become a synonym for real life escape games
Fox in a Box opened its doors as Chicago’s first continuously operating true escape room in September 2015 bringing escape rooms and particularly European style escape rooms to the city. We offer 4 different immersive themes as well as a popup room which we can bring to your site. Our escape rooms are all private as we believe that private rooms are the best way to ensure a great experience every time. It may not be as profitable to run rooms in this fashion, but our goal is to ensure a delightful experience without exception.
Our themes in increasing difficulty include The Bunker, Zodiac, The Prison and The Bank. In the Bunker, you have 60 minutes to stop the launch of a nuclear weapon. In Zodiac, your team has been kidnapped by the Zodiac Killer and you have one hour to escape — this room is for only those 18+ years old. In the Prison, a riot has broken out and your group has 1 hour to escape in the confusion. And in the Bank you have one hour to steal the diamonds from the evil boss of The Bank. We also offer our competitive popup room The Final Exam where your group of secret agent trainees have 1 hour to pass (and live) by diffusing a bomb – the team that finishes first gets the pick of assignments – but both teams need to win for obvious reasons.
We are hard to find and are far from the cheapest, but Fox in a Box is the best escape room in Chicagoland. Fox in a Box is the only escape room with more than 50 reviews that has a 5.0 rating on Google, Trip Advisor, Yelp and Facebook. Every other escape room falls short.
Fox in a Box should be your first escape room. Do not settle for less. It may change your life. It changed mine.
As a former silicon valley technical executive, I got into this business because I was on a year old sabbatical with my family (and dog) touring Europe in a motorhome. Despite seeing and participating in some amazing things, no matter what we did, someone in the family had a beef. Until on a rainy day in the third largest city in Serbia, we tried an escape room. Everyone loved it. Realizing that something truly special had happened, we changed the next 4 months of our adventure to play as many escape rooms as we could (and there weren’t many in 2014). On returning to the states, and rather than go back to work in technology, I reached out to the best location that we played and signed on as a franchisee. We opened a year later and have hosted over 10,000 teams. The last 3.5 years have been the most fun I’ve had in my life.
