It was a beautiful sunny weekend and what better way to spend it than drinking a Michelada. Chicago hosted their first Michelada Festival. Michelada is a Mexican tradition beverage. Think about a Bloody Mary without vodka or horseradish. A Michelada is prepared with tomato juice, lime juice, hot sauce,, powered chile, and is topped with a favorite cold beer. People couldn’t wait to get their hands on a Michelada and were even willing to wait over 30 minutes in line.

There were 5 options to choose from: Pepino(cucumber), Mango-Pineapple-Habanero, Tamarindo, Vegan, and for the non-drinkers, Miche-Nada, a non-alcoholic Michelada. If the Michelada was not appealing, the festival offered Pina Coladas and Cantaritos. To top it off, the festival served authentic Mexican food such as tacos and tortas. To burn off those calories, people danced to live DJ and even a Mariachi performance. Festivals like these express culture to Chicago and bring together the beautiful and diverse city of Chicago.
