My goal has always been to help people. When I was young, my initial idea was to go into ministry or become a doctor. I pursued a degree in ministry and was trained in how to manage and care for groups of people and to teach them. However, after finishing my degree, I realized that the ministry might not be the best application of my skill set. Nonetheless, the idea of interacting and communicating with people to better themselves has been a constant goal.
I have always loved sports and athletics. After discovering CrossFit in 2011, I instantly fell in love with all aspects of the program. I loved the actual CrossFit classes and community, but I also loved how it affected every aspect of my life. I had massive imposter syndrome as I spent most of my life overweight. When I got into coaching and lost weight I had leaders around me who encouraged me to apply what I learned in college to changing people’s lives in a different way. They showed me how my skills could apply to something I never imagined. CrossFit means so much to me because it changed my life, and I want to pass on my experience to others. The opportunity to change peoples’ lives is something that I love and pursue because I know that will stay around forever.
It’s been 6 years since I’ve opened my gym and I’ve transitioned back to the corporate world. My gym has a staff and I only coach 1-2 classes a week. I love what I do now and I’m happy that I’ve built something that I can hand off to my staff. Now my new goals are to excel in my current role at CareerBuilder and take care of my personal health to the best of my ability. I sill still do elements of CrossFit, but now I find myself doing bodybuilding. I enjoy the change of pace and I want to be in the best possible shape of my life. Practically, this has meant taking greater ownership of what I eat. I work with Dr. Trevor Kashey and have never been in greater physical shape. Early on in CrossFit, I would eat paleo or whole 30 but I was really just guessing when it came to my food. Lately, my passion has been to lock in my food and know exactly what I’m putting into my body so I can be better equipped to take care of my family and those around me.
