So I’ve always wanted to understand how money works, BIG money! I grew up in Hyde Park, on Chicago’s south side and loved walking by some of the big old mansions there. It seemed impossible for a kid like me to have that lifestyle.
My dad is almost 40 years clean and sober, but in the 70s and early 80s when I was growing up, he was either drinking, or still trying to learn how to live life without alcohol. Money was tight, and wasn’t a happy subject. I had a high IQ, and school came easily to me, but a low EQ (emotional intelligence), and pretty soon, I lost sight of why school was important to me. It was a full time job dealing with my emotions and the fighting at home.
Like a lot of city kids, I eventually started getting in trouble. I ended up finishing my high school years at Mercy Boys Home on the near west side of Chicago. It was great to get some distance from my issues at home, but it was going to be a long road to getting a grip on my demons. At age 19, I started going to business school at UIC, but was itching to get a job and my own place. After a couple of short runs at odd jobs, a friend of mine got me a entree level position at the Chicago Board of Trade. I loved the energy! I eventually dropped out of college and spent 13 years working there. It wasn’t quite “The Wolf of Wall Street”, but it was pretty wild, and I fit right in. I loved the party environment and fast action, and fully indulged in it. I was starting to repeat my dad’s drinking problem.
In 2003 the CBOT was being converted to a computer trading platform and I, along with thousands of other floor workers, began to get laid off. I ended up working in the hospitality industry, hotels, restaurants and night clubs, but some of what I learned while on the floor and my interest in markets never left me. I continued to read business books while on the train to work everyday and listen to endless podcasts on the internet while at home. I’ve started several businesses over the years, and while I never had the massive success I was looking for, I learned more from experience and people than I ever could’ve just going to a regular job everyday. I was recruited by a member of the chairman’s board of large national financial services company in early 2017, learned about one particular financial strategy that blew my mind, and struck out on my own this year with a young business prodigy, Caleb Guilliams.
Caleb and I share the same burning desire to unlock the greatest truths and strategies in finance, for ourselves and and to share with others. I see financial education as a gaping hole in our education system, and as such an empowering force for good. No, money is not the be all and end all in life, but neither is health. However, without either one, life becomes a daily struggle to overcome fear and low level struggles. My drive is help people live their greatest lives, to free them from spending their precious time doing things that are unimportant to them and start using the natural gifts in the biggest way possible.
Our company doesn’t solve every financial issue, but we can set up one of the most powerful, and massively underused financial tools for your family that most people have never heard of, although the Rockefeller’s, the Kennedy’s, and the Rothschild’s have been using it for generations. It’s a great starting point for many.
