Malcom Banks was born in Chicago,IL and raised in the south suburbs of Illinois by two musically and artistically inclined parents, Malcom L. Banks Sr. and Stephanie C. Butler.
With his musically infused upbringing, Banks was classically trained on the trumpet. As a promising athlete, he played college football and started as a freshman cornerback. After leaving college early from a leg injury, he fell back in love with his first love, which was performing music. He taught himself piano and bass, which led to producing music for local artists, and performing with his sister, Melody Angel, in Chicago and New York. However, it was the tragic death of his younger cousin Jeffrey Butler, to Chicago street violence, that unlocked his deepest passion of being an actor.
Soon after embarking on his acting career, Malcom was nominated for best male actor in the Midwest Film Festival, in 2014, for his portrayal of a high school football player forced to confront his prejudice and own history, when he discovers the captain of his new team is gay. In 2015, Malcom booked his first nationally televised character “Gerard Garner” on NBC’s Chicago PD Season 3 Episode 13 “Hit Me”. In 2016 he signed on to a short film called Side Effects, as the character ‘Christian’, which showed audiences the softer side of a character who’s been the bad guy thus far. Side Effects is currently available on Xfinity Comcast and Amazon. The year 2016 also led Malcom to his first time writing and directing of the dark thriller, 7vens Law, a film that places the dilemma on the audience of right and wrong. Malcom also composed the score for the project. In 2016, He was cast as club owner ‘Phil’ in “Walk Away From Love”, which was directed by Chicago director, Christopher Nolen, and starring Brely Evans, Noree Victoria, Brad James, and Robert Christopher Riley. In 2017, he can be seen in the soon to be released, feature film, Professor Mack, also directed by Christopher Nolen. Malcom plays the role of ‘Kevin’, along with another star studded cast, including, Amin Joseph, Timon Kyle Durrett, Lisa Wu, Robert Christopher Riley, Erica Hubbard. Also, in the fall of 2017, Malcom will make his directorial debut in the feature film, “Rules”.
