What we choose to carry with us on a day-to-day basis makes a huge impact on how we live our lives. That is true for the emotional, as well as the physical. Miss Melissa of BLESSEDBEADELL’S™ takes this message to heart.
In 2016, after watching a documentary on sex trafficking, Melissa knew that she had to do something to help these young girls. The visions of these innocent girls chained and locked inside cold, damp metal sheds, was etched inside the confines of her mind. She looked down at her hands, and asked, “what can I do to help”? This is where BLESSEDBEADELL’S™ was born.
Melissa was an artist for as long as she could remember, always sketching the people that she came across in her everyday life. She took those sketches of “everyday women”, and turned them into bags. The woman that she saw on the train one day, strong women in her family, a woman she passed on the sidewalk…they all became the characters on her bags. Each bag depicts the beauty and grace of that particular woman. As Melissa told me, “We all have a purpose, and we have to be our own heroes sometimes.”
Today, BLESSEDBEADELL’S™ collaborates with missions across the globe to help spread awareness and fight against sex trafficking. A portion of each sale is donated to help girls as young as 5 years old rebuild their lives after being broken down and forced into the victimhood of human trafficking.
BLESSEDBEADELL’S™ vision is to spread globally and to continue to help various missions that afford each young girl a fresh start in life by giving them a safe haven, education, independent living skills, and the hope of a bright future for the years ahead.
BLESSEDBEADELL’S™ mission and affirmation “I’M B.E.A.D.E.D” is an acronym, which stands for: “I’m Becoming Empowered And Determined Every Day” ™. With each bead that is lovingly placed on every bag, there is a seed of hope that is being planted for the future of young girls everywhere. These strong “everyday women” that breathe life into the characters on these bags inspire all of us to remember that we are so much more powerful than we know. It also reminds us to be there for each other. We are all stitched together with one long continuous thread, connected by our minds, our hearts, and our souls.
Life is precious, so we must make of it what we will. When Melissa lost her young brother Gregory, it opened her eyes to this very fact. Her passion to create and inspire has been even further propelled by the words that her brother often spoke to her which is to “always do something influential because it forces others to remember your name”. BLESSEDBEADELL’S™ is not a name (or a cause) that I will be forgetting anytime soon. These bags are a perfect example of how art is the purest form of love. May we all find love in our day-to-day lives.
