A Candid Conversation With Dominick Izzo, Candidate For Cook County Sheriff 2018
Passionate, polarizing and non political are the three words to describe this exciting new campaign for Cook County Sheriff for this November.
As a complete outsider and idealist, former police officer Dominick Izzo is no stranger to taking on crime or corruption.
Having served as a police officer since 2001, including being a training officer, member of NIPAS and public relations officer, he has left his police department with cries of exposing corruption and willing “fallen on the sword” for officers nation wide as he puts it and has been actively campaigning against current Sheriff Tom Dart in an effort to return the Cook County Sheriff’s Department to the community.
Izzo is a national public speaker and a leader in the law enforcement community who has never held back on his opinions.
“We have to return the jail, courts and streets of Cook County to the people,” Izzo said, “the community has the highest level of expectation from the law enforcement on integrity, service and protection, not selective protection, harassment or deception. I will return and surpass the standard of Law Enforcement across the nation with the new example of what the Cook County Sheriff’s Department will become under my leadership.”
Izzo also is unapologetic for his words on police abuse to the public as well as the public’s abuse of the police.
“Yes, we have a problem with our police,” Izzo said, “but it is not with the street cop or corrections officer. It is with the epic failure of police command and County leadership.”
Izzo has announced his candidacy as an Independent as he has stated that not only are both political parties in need of new leadership, but a Sheriff should remain unbiased and without political affiliation.
His massive social media presence has given him a national platform of which he uses to unite the public and the police while educating both sides. He has spoke out against both community violence and police corruption, taking attacks from all sides who oppose him.
Izzo, a self proclaimed thorn in the side of the political machine and has stated that he will finish this race all the way to victory this November 6th with a historic win as either a ballot win independent or as a write in.
“I can see in the eyes of the public that this is the time for historic change in Cook County and Chicago. I will return to working for the public, for the police and for the community. No other candidate can do what I will,” Izzo said.
This exciting and unconventional race may be exactly what Chicago and Cook County have waited for.
