Girls on the Run-Chicago Announces Launch of Fall Season with New, Flexible Programming Options
GOTR pivots to provide physical activity and social-emotional support to girls this fall
CHICAGO – September 14, 2020 – Today, Girls on the Run-Chicago announced the launch of its fall season with a new, flexible programming model to accommodate the changing and unpredictable school year due to the pandemic. The new model will offer in-person, virtual and hybrid programming options to provide physical activity and social-emotional support to girls in 3rd through 8th grade.
“Like so many other nonprofits, we’ve had to pivot our programming and processes to meet the moment,” says Jill Eid, Executive Director for Girls on the Run-Chicago. “This fall we are thrilled to be offering our traditional school-based teams as well as fully virtual teams that are open to all and allow for girls to connect with other girls from across Chicagoland.”
Girls on the Run-Chicago piloted a fully virtual program with two teams of girls this summer and, based on positive feedback, went on to develop a fall season that is safe, supportive, and flexible to change with the current times.
To meet the need for fun and engaging extracurricular activity this fall, GOTR teams will meet twice per week for 8 weeks with two trained coaches. Whether in-person or virtually, girls will enjoy a variety of games and activities to build connections and get active. The season will conclude with a celebratory movement challenge that can be completed either virtually or in small groups at their site.
“For girls who are missing friends or mentors, we provide that connection,” said Eid. “For girls who are feeling anxious, worried or insecure, we have lessons that help identify and manage those emotions. Our participants will reap the benefits of being a part of a team that provides flexibility, emotional support and the opportunity to meet new friends, all from the safety and comfort of home.”
Girls on the Run-Chicago practices are set to begin throughout the month of September and October, and will run through November. For more information or to register, visit www.gotrchicago.org.
